Hey there! You've got a great page here, glad to see there are some
people in this world that are smart enough to KNOW that rabbits kick
serious ass, inside, and out. I've recently purchased a 83 GTI, (for
400 bucks!) and have immediate plans to restore it. The problem I have
is that I dont know how to install roundies (I have rectangular lights,
as per the 83) and was wondering if you could give me a few hints on the
How-To's of installation (2 per side). Also what seats would you
recommend for me? I'm 6'3", and the original seats aren't wide enough
for my body. Whats a good choice for a retrofit? Keep up the good
work, I look forward to hearing from
you............................Adam.

I have the bitchennennest VW 1980 Wabbit in the whole world. Runs quiet. So it burns a quart of oil every 400 miles. It's my baby car! I keep this baby tuned up and pampered. It gets a garage for a house. Mine has 226,000 miles on it. I'm so glad to see how many folks have the same love for their wabbits as I do. I love mine! No transmission problems. I watch the oil and make sure it has enough. My windshield is cracked because of desert living, but my baby car loves the Mojave desert and I love it! VW Rabbits RULE baby!!!!!!!!!!.

I'm correcting a series of electric problems.

A fuse box replacement seems to be the answer.

If you can help me remedy this for a 80 F/I Rabbit please contact me.

Thanks.

My '77 finally needed a new clutch and pressure plate.
They only lasted 272,000 miles... I guess the Germans
don't build'em like they used to, huh?

I'm the original owner and the mileage is accurate.
Nice pictures in the archives. I'm afraid ol' Gertrude
is not ready for a photo yet, but i may scan in an older
one from her youth.

I'm looking for VW Rabbit pickup parts. A bicyclist ran into the back
of my truck and destroyed my tailgate soon after we had spent a lot of
money on painting it. Do you know of any companies that sell parts?

Thanks, Penny

I like you sit. I have three vw's, two 83 Rabbits and a68 Scircco
16v 2+2 coupe with a 1.8L. They are all really great cars. I use to
hit the car show circuit, my Rabbit won over 20 tropies. The best and
my favorite is the Scircco. It is a hot running machine. I am also the
past president of a Vw car club based in Indiana we are Southern
Indiana Volks Force a part of THE INDIANAVOLKS CLUB. Your web page is
really good. I will drop in from time to time.

Great Page!!!!!! I own an '84 Rabbit GTI It is the second car that I
have owned I have had it now for three years, The car was involed in a
minor accident while I was away at school and was broken sitting in a
parking lot for 4 months, During the Time It was Broken I bought an 86
Gti and It was no where near as Much Fun as the Rabbit. Needless to say
I sold that A2 and repaired the trusty Rabbit that had 100, 000 more
miles than the A2. I love beating Torqueless Wonders (aka HONDAs) in
Dragraces out on the strip at the beach (I live in in Daytona Beach not
the best place for VW enthsiasts). My Gti with nearly 250 000 miles on
it has beaten Civic Si, integra and even a few fools that didn't know
how to drive their Porsche boxters. Rabbits Rule keep em on the road
forever!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome page! Its good to see so many vw lovers! I currently own to VW
rabbits: '82 diesel, and my new project, a '80 2dr gas.(paid $50 with
only a bad motor!) The '80 Rabbit will soon have 1.8 motor from a '85
Jetta. But, I'm looking for a turbo set-up for the A1. If I had the
money, I'd be getting the 1.8 20valve turbo. I could use any help in my
quest for a turbo kit!!! Feel free to Email with any questions you have.
REMEMBER: If it's not VW, It's just not worth driving!!!

for some reason my gti ended up on the opening page of this website
(the surf green rabbit on the main page). i will be putting new pics
up in spring as the car now looks nothing like that shitty 3 year
old picture. since then i have gotten a full jamex suspension kit
and sits about 2 1/2 inches lower than those spax springs, eurosport
lower tie bar, neuspeed strut brace, de-flared the arches, euro bumpers,
peeled off the tint, tinted lenses all round, 195/50/15 pirelli p7000s,
high compression 1.8 from 90 gti, diesel tranny, shortened bee sting,
drilled airbox, when the car was painted in 96 the rear side marker
lights were shaved, the tailgate was shaved, aerial on fender was
shaved, bee sting installed on roof, integra seats (sorry for going
honda but i needed seats and they were sweet seats for dirt cheap),
320mm momo monte carlo steering wheel, mk1 jetta lower console,
mk3 jetta lower chin spoiler modified to fit under stock gti chin
spoiler, twin outlet exhaust manifold, 2 1/4 pipe, no

I bought a 1982 VW rabbit, off of a used car company called The Auto
house on Washington street in North Attleboro MA. I love it, the Rabbit
is my first car. It only has got 45,000 miles on it, and is running
and looks perfect.

1979 Volkswagen Rabbit Diesel owner: unknown kilometers (odometer only
goes up to 99,000 and I bought it when it was sixteen years old), lots
of body rust (slowly being taken care of), and of course still runs
like new. Recently replaced the head gasket in my parent's driveway
(used two clamps to hold the timing belt to the intermediate shaft
pully and the injection pump pulley, a steel ruler to lock the
camshaft, and a bolt wrapped with masking tape to lock the injection
pump pulley). Currently need a fuel tank (leaking) but I've heard that
you need to drop the rear axle to get the old one out.

I thought I was the only one who owned a '77 rabbit, but i guess not!
it's nice to hear that i'm also not alone for loven' vee dubs! they
rule! i have a stock '77 yellow auto rabbit - gas of course - and when
i say stock, i mean stock! the only two things that i can think of that
aren't stock are the two speakers in the back, and the head unit.
everything else is stock, but in excellent shape. i am the third owner,
and can't wait to get the car on the road, and hopped up! i don't know
what is going to be more fun, the hop ups, or the driving the car it's
self! anyways. like i said, own a 1977 yellow rabbit, automatic, 1.6L,
and i have no clue how many valves. i just got the car not even a week
ago, and i'm waiting for the papers to come back so i can go get the
insurance and plates. any ideas on how to come across cheap and
reliable performance parts will be welcome. i also wouldn't mind
knowing where to get some 4-point saftey harnesses for my car,
preferably in canada, and even

Your page is great, I love Rabbits! I have an 83 4 door with 175K miles

a center ashtray, 4 new window rollers, and a center ashtray. The final
touch-ups are going to be the black paint job and the rims. Hopefully
I'm going to start my own simple rabbit page, just showing the progress

YO! I've been into VW since 82. My favorite these days is my '85
Cabrio, Maroon on tan. Sweet piece with the usual fun mods (BBS
wheels, TT exhaust, K-&-N, chasis tie bars, etc) that keep the car
basically stock looking. Just placed 3rd in Vermont VW show 3rd
weekend in September. Nice place to drive to in the fall. Em ail me
for info on the next one if you like. I have an 81 Cabrio that is
willing to donate parts, so if you need something, let me know. I
gotta go check out the page now, thanks. aokspanky@aol.com

I love VW. I own an 83 VW Rabbit GTi and I have done all sorts of modifacations to it such as I have a new Eurosport 16v 2.0liter engine all sorts of other things. Not just under the hood but the interior and the exterior. Such as a pounding system and Konig Tuner 16 inch rims which are a painted alloy of black on the spokes and the rim is dark red.

Great site. Love the pics of all different VWs. I just bought my first

Great web page; keep up the good work. I had an '83 Rabbit LS gas 4dr.
It was a great car, but I sold it for the money. Now I have an '82
Rabbit LS 2dr diesel. I've owned it for 3 years now. It is a great car;
I've driven it all over the place. I love the diesels! Just last weekend
I bought an '83 Quantum with a Turbo Diesel engine. Hopefully this
winter I will be performing an engine swap and putting some more power
into my Rabbit.

Keep on driving the Rabbits!

Hor springs, Boge shocks, and many other minor extras. I bought the
car three years ago and have used as my daily driver ever since. Now,
with nearly 200k miles, it looks and runs better than when I bought it.

great page, easy to navigate, well organized. I just surfed on in and I
was glad I found your page. I admit I don't know too much about my VW
yet, I have an '84 Wolfsburg Convertible with only 71k miles. I just
bought it a few months ago and I've been debating on whether to restore
it to mint condition, it's in excellent shape already or whether to
modify it. I'm still debating. As soon as I get off my lazt butt and
scan some pics I'll send you some.

Very nice site. You've definitely earned my approval. Its nice to see
others with the same appreciation for Rabbits that I have. I drive a
1983 Rabbit LS. The LS features Power Steering, real window wiper, and
Air Conditioning. It is a gas engine, frost blue exterior, dark blue
interior. I bought it about 4 months ago, and since then, I have had
the AC recharged, the vents repaired, 2 holes in the body repaired (one
was VERY sloppy), tune-up, 2 new tires, 1 new hub assy, 1 new strut
when old one fell out while they were repairing the hub, 4 new exterior
door handles (oh, yeah. It is a 4 door model, but I guess you figured
this out already), it needs 1 new interior door handle, 1 new flywheel,
1 new alternator belt, (I went to this one place about 4 times because
they kept giving me the wrong belt. I then went to NAPA, and they were
right the first time. Of course, my battery died RIGHT after I
installed the new belt in the NAPA parking lot! It didn't need to be
replaced, just charg

I own a 1982 VW Rabbit, 2 door and it's lime green with black racing
stripes. I will send a picture as soon as possible. You've probably
seen me around if you are from Lindsay, Ontario. Great site.

Hi. Your site is great! I am from Germany and own a 1979 Rabbit (we say
"Golf") GTI 1,6 110hp. I wanted to chat, but unfortunately there was
nobody there...maybee you were all asleep when I tried it. Keep up the
very good work!

Great site! Not enough Rabbit sites on the web. I own a 1980 Rabbit
Convertible. It came from Eastern Canada {New Brunswick} and it was
pretty ratty looking. I changed the color from red to Intense blue
pearl metallic and re-dyed the interior and ragtop white. It came with
the original 1.6L, but it was converted from fuel injection to
carburetor. OUCH! That wasn't long going either. I now run a 1.8L GTI
motor with a 4 in 1 header and a 2 1/2 inch exhaust. It goes like stink.
Time for a new project. We have a little rabbit club where I am ranging
from rabbit trucks {caddy's} to cabrio's and GTI's and even deisel's.
Maybe you can email me back and tell me where you are located in case we
decide to do a road trip some time. Thanks.

great site! i love reading all the vw rabbit info. and comments!
i noticed some people said not much on rabbit elsewhere, i noticed
at barnes-&-nobles in the magazines an english magazine published on
vw and mostly rabbits. these guys are SERIOUS about their cars, but
it has info and pictures of the rabbits that ive'nt seen elswhere.
of corse it costs $10-15 so just stand there with some coffee for
45 min. ive owned about 13 vw's, everyone wants the fast ones, ive
always wanted one of every vw model!

Great Page!! Very few to rabbits on the web, don't know why.
I own a 79 RABBIT C. It is stock but it can haul. I bought it 2 years
ago this Christmas Eve for $450. My present to myself. It was silver
but was painted (poorly) burgandy. It is now black, but will be
a custom coral/orange, with multi-color designs. The interior is
red with a red carpet dash cover ($45.00) from Advance Auto (special
order but lots of colors.) It is fuel injected and has a non-catalytic
sticker in the door. I just got new 14x6 Z-racing rims and 185-60
Falken Zeix's. Hopefully I can start driving it every day. I also
own 71 -&- 73 Superbeetles VW's rule

i was given my 1981 VW Rabbit as a gift. It is an awesome blessing.
My Rabbit is a shade of tan (not sure what the name is) and it has a
dark blue interior. It is a diesel with a 4speed manual. My little
car is tough. It has several accidents in its lifetime and it has well
over 300,000 miles on it, yet it is still running perfectly. Rabbits
are awesome cars. i love them.

I just happened up your site. Haven't yet had a chance to check it out yet. I am the proud owner of a 1983 VW Rabbit LS Wolfsburg edition (Black/4door/Silver grey Interior). 16 years + and it still runs and looks great. I love my Rabbit!

I drive a 1989 MK2 1297 cc tornado red basic golf, Soon to be VR6'ed.
It has electric leather recarro sports seats, 16" TSW Venoms, MOMO
stering Wheel and Gear Knob. Oh yes Im only 17.

Ron Nielsen   04/Sep/1999:21:10:55
I have a 1977 Mars red 4 door Rabbit, which I bought from the original
owner. It's still got the original paint, which looks great. It has 83
GTI wheels, black Scirocco leather seats, a custom built 2.0 8v engine
and close ratio trans.(both I just recently built), an early 16v
ignition system, A-2 8v intake manifold with all the F.I. system on the
right side like an A-2. It's lots of fun to drive, since it does low to
mid 15's in the quarter mile. I feel in love with Rabbits in 82 when on
a drive home from work to make sure that a problem I fixed, stayed
fixed. (I used to own air cooleds. I'll never go back!)

John Stepikura   04/Sep/1999:19:34:12
I have an '82 Rabbit Deisel with more electronics and lights in it then a christmas tree; and it still runs awesome. i saved it for $500 bucks and it is now worth over $1500. I love it. Now if my '75 yellow bug looked as good then i would have it made!!!!!! VW's are the ultimate German automobles.

always be the greatest fan of VW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!thanxx

Jason Biggs   29/Aug/1999:18:01:17
I love rabbits. i think they look 10 times tougher than golf2-4s. i
drive an '85 cabrio, a fixer upper i havent quite fixed up yet. it runs
great and fast(i kick honda ass), and it is super low. im about to
paint it and get a new top. ive lived in louisville for 2 years now and
at first i thought "how cool can kentucky be?", but this place has a
huge VW following, from rabbits to roccs to corrados. i think too many
people who buy new american cars only plan on owning them for 2 years.
it is great to see people embracing old cars that were built to last
and run forever. another great point is how new cars change too much,
seems like every year is a totally new body style, but the rabbit didnt
change for 10 yrs, and you can put a new 2.0 vw 8V into a '75 rabbit
with little difficulties. why change a great design?

Dustin Parker   27/Aug/1999:13:59:50
I love the vw rabbit myself, I now own a white 1983 rabbit GTI which
the exterior is pretty nice on, except for I rolled it into a dich.
still runs good though. I love it it's my baby. The design is just
great for bike racks as shown in the photos The white gti with the
yakima rack is quite simmalar to my own except mine has original GTI
wheels.

Dear VW Beetle Friend! I hope that although you like the Rabbit, you still have a place in your hearth for the VW Beetle.

You can help to save the VW Beetle images, just keeping them on picture. Visit the amazing site below and be part of the QUEST!!!

I was looking for information concerning the vaule of a 1982
convertible Rabbit when I came across your site. It really is a great
site. Hopefully I will become a Rabbit owner and enjoy your site even
more. Any suggestions on finding more info about the 82 convertable
Rabbit?

Nice site. Mk1's are my favorite VW's.
I own 2. One is an 82 rabbit that was deisel, but is being stripped and
turned into a 16v monster (hope for close to 400 bhp!), the other is a
90 cabriolet w/ techtonics exhaust (no-cat). I'll send pictures of both
when I get a scanner.

Paul   28/Jul/1999:14:05:12
