Hi melissa   14/Dec/2000:00:01:57
Hi melissa, them GTI vent windows are always going to be a prob, they
leak, fall out and the latches always break. Im pretty sure Bow Wow
auto parts will have a replacement latch for a good price. Usually the
replacements ara a better design then the old one

Tk later
Ryan

Melissa   13/Dec/2000:01:22:49
I own an 83 Rabbit GTI and the left passenger vent window fell out. Go
figure. I was able to purchase the glass at a junkyard but cannot find
the magnetic fastener or handle that allows the window to open and
close. I have found the later vent window assembly that screws on
rather than glues on for $50 but don't know if I can afford it at this
time. Anyone got a clue where to get the handle that glues on to the
glass? Anyway, I'm not a huge rabbit fan yet but I do realize why they
are hobbies-there's always something to fix.

I just bought a 1984 Volkswagon Rabbit with a 1.8 liter fuel injected
engine dropped into it. I plan to convert it to more GTI specs. Then
add custom intake of my design a custom shortshift kit and catback
exhaust. The car is in great running order and I payed only 390
dollars on it. It only needs some minor body work and it'll be the
perfect economical ride. I'll keep you guys updated on first project.

Johann Murbach   26/Nov/2000:12:22:57
Hello,

I had a 1980 Rabbit, 4 dr. (L). It had several problems. The problems
had to do with the electrical system. You know, those $70.00 fuse panels
that would always burn their fuses? The ignition wire to the starter was
corroded and wouldn't start the engine. Remedied with a new wire. Turn
signals malfunctioned and almost all aspects of the wiring were poorly
done. Of course, I bought it from a Honda dealer. In the winter, the
slush would collect around the tie-rod openings in the frame (uni-body).
The resultant freezing overnight wouldn't allow the rack to function
properly, hence the steering rack boots would be torn. But it was very
economical. It never let me down in slippery conditions. It behaved well
in a foot of snow. I should have kept it or opted for the engine swap.
I've heard it is possible to install a Rolls Royce 6.75 l V-8 in the
cramped engine compartment. I asked the bus driver if I could put it on
the top of the bus and go across country. Well, global warming

Hello VW-Fanatic...

I was very impressed when I saw your web-page dedicated to
the best looking VWs on the road. I'm a proud owner of a
1990 VW Cabriolet... and I cherish it as my baby until the
day I die. Keep up the good work on your web-page, its one
of my favorite sites dedicated to the "Rabbit". :)

Hi,

I think it's cool that you're into this whole webpage thing. The
average 16 year old doesn't really dedicate time to this sort of thing.
Congrats on you getting your license and I'm sure you'll find your
Rabbit.

My ex b/f gave me an '83 Rabbit for x-mas. It should be on the road
pretty soon. I have to get the insurance/paperwork started. I have yet
to see the car (even though I hold the title to it). Right now the car
is at his friends' garage. I was wondering if you have a flick
(picture) of an '83 Rabbit in grey. I'd appretiate it if you would send
it.

Thanks

Great site Al! You said you are in the market for a Rabbit some day,
well I know of a sweet Cabrio. conv. for sale the asking price is a
little high but you might could talk them down. The body and interior
are in great condition it just needs a little engine work I think? Any
way the contact is Southside Imports, which is in Louisiana. Probably
along way from where your located. Well about me I was given my '84
Rabbit GL 4-dr. Sedan with trim package in '96. A friend of my grand
father's "gave" it to him and he passed it to me. I was inneed of
something to drive while I was rebuilding my '91 Jeep Wrang. (after
100K and countless offroad escapades). It even came with the original
sticker, with all the options listed. It rolled out in Sept. '83
therefore it is one of the few fitted with a carb. intead of FI. After
putting my Jeep back on the road my sister drove the Rabbit for a short
while. And then it was parked for two years. After getting married last
year my new wife told me she

Proud owner of a 1982 Rabbit, diesel with great gas milage, especially
with the gas prices of today. By far the best little car I have ever
owned, minimal problems and it has remained in great condition. I am
happy to see there are so many more of them out there.

You've got quite a nice site here. I just got my "new" '84 Rabbit
Diesel up and running. It doesn't look quite as good as the ones in
the pictures you've got on here, but, hopefully, with a little TLC
it'll look like it just came off the showroom floor in no time.

I just got finished fixing up my 84 vw rabbit convertable. I love my
car and I thought there was no one else that had the same passion about
the rabbits as I do. It feels really good to have a sight like this
that I can come to and enjoy the rabbits.

have been looking for other people that still have interest in the
rabbits i thought that it wa almost extinct but i guess not.

Oops, I got cut off... I left off at fresh paint ('cuz mine looks like
I drove through a pebble avalanche), and finally, a G60 or 1.8L 20V
Turbo conversion (I can always wish, right?). This is my recreational
vehicle, and as such, I drive it for pleasure on sunny days to remind
Honda and Acura owners of their inferiority to Volkswagen. Keep up the
dope page, man, and peace out.

P.S. - MUCH LOVE TO ALL VW ENTHUSIASTS!!!

I've owned about ten cars in the past four years, and *NONE* of them
compare in terms of looks, performance, value, and FUN to my 1980
Diesel Rabbit. I bought it in August of 1999 and have been modifying it
in my spare time. Recently, I removed the diesel motor (I think I had a
little too much fun with it; it smoked like my grandpa) and implanted a
'91 1.8L 8V with an '85 GTI 5 speed. Needless to say, driving it has
become a much more interesting experience. My list of modifications
include Bilstein Sport suspension with Hor springs, Autotech front/rear
lightweight swaybars and upper strut bars, subframe connectors,
polyurethane control arm/trailing tube bushings, GTI rims, Euro bumpers,
Solex racing carbureator, 4 into 1 racing header, tinted windows (when
done correctly, they look wonderful), a decent Alpine stereo system, and
a Flower Fresh smelly tree to complement my fresh ride. Future plans
include headwork (including double valve springs and a more aggressive
cam), fres

Bought an 81 Rabbit out of scrap yard for $200 with holes in it you
could fit your head through and the previous owner had installed a
generator under the hood to supply electricity to his camp, so who
knowes how many running hours the engine had on it. Spent a summer
working on it and now its better than new. Drive it 1600 k every other
weekend and has never given me any trouble, some weekends I even drag a
loaded trailer made from the frame of the Jetta that I took all the
parts from to restore the Habbit. I love Rabbits!

Really nice site,it inspired me to pull my 84 rabbit Wolfsburg conv.out
of storage and begin a much needed cleanup.I just ordered a new top for
it and am looking to find a source for the original seat panels(white
canvass with blue pinstripes).Other then that the car looks like new
with only 44000 orig.miles and no rust or body dings.
I will send a picture as soon as I can.

Any idea how many 84 convertibles like mine were made???

thanks JC

Hey, nice site. Glad to see it's nt cluttered up with golfs.
I have a 84 cabby as my current project and a 80 gti asa daily driver.
The GTI has a cam, modified intake, custom exhaust, weight reduction,
and a few other goodies. All that I need now is NOS.

PS: To all the pretty boys with the big rims and heavy body work,
Get real, Lightweight sitting on 13's is where it's at for speed.

I'm a Rabbit lover in search of another fixer-upper!!! I made the worst
decision of my life when I got rid of my first 81, and I really would
like to find something that runs, drives and is on the east coast close
to the Washington DC area. If anyone knows of a 2dr, 4dr gas L or LS
model in relatively good shape, please drop me a line to the above
address. I'm very skilled with engine and driveline work, but body work
is not my strong suit. I'm hoping that one is out there with slight
mechanical problems and very little wrong cosmeticly.....

Again - help me in my search for automotive nirvana! I need to get rid
of this Accord.....

PS - I'm looking to get this thing in shape to show at this fall's
Mannassas Bug Out! HELP!!!!

Ethan.

I bought a '77 Rabbit 2 door. It still has the original 1.6l. Is there
any hope in making this engine fast or do I have to buy an 1.8l for it?

I also have an '87 Scirocco with a factory new 2.0l with euro cams,
Bilstien hd shocks, Neuspeed racing springs, Jacobs ignition system,
Bellevue header, autotech exhaust all sitting nicely on 16" IMF wheels.
This car I started from scratch. I hope the Rabbit will be as nice

I think that Allan here, is a really bad person. He only posts comments
that are positive, i think you should post up all the things that
people say. Like yesterday, i wrote some stuff here and now its erased.
What is that? If you wanna check out a non-biased site, go to my page!
